Democracy 2.0 / Hyperloop Coast to Coast / Accessible Health Issues: 1) Technology Taking Jobs, (Post Automation Middleclass), 2) Climate Change, 3) Border Issues, 4) Health Care, Solutions: 1) Technology in the Workforce / Automation: Here is a link to an hour long Debt Nation Show interview with in depth discussion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClcA5yIvZDY Read this 3 minute Defend our Democracy article for some more information: https://www.defendourdemocracy.com/technology-replacing-human-jobs/ Candidate Solution Statement: Automation makes human lives better, but takes human jobs. How we evolve our economy with technology is now at a pivotal point in history. We as a country need to continue technological progress, which means we cannot tax or regulate it to the point it cannot develop, but we might also want to determine what is "street legal" for a robot, and people also need income as technology makes many human jobs obsolete in the workforce (maybe 50% of the upcoming generation of workers). To balance this, and deal with the growing-pains of technology we must address the changing economic landscape, the balancing of Supply and Demand, and how to stabilize these things long term. Existing solutions are for Universal Basic Income (UBI) which is a partial solution. It is wealth distribution of "free" money given to citizens, and which long term threatens to form a UBI dependent society. This free payment can help the Demand side of the economy, but does nothing for the Supply side, which inevitably means prices will rise to compensate UBI funding taxes, making the UBI less valuable, looming the threat of the economy entering a downward inflationary spiral. UBI alone cannot cure the problem unless there is something also growing the Supply side, creating new businesses and growing the middle class, enabling the economy to cycle and citizen independence. With many recent technologies, the Supply side of the economy has consolidated from many businesses into only a few very large organizations. This shrinks the Supply side and total number of jobs available, and also looms the threat that those few organizations can effectively monopolize the automated workforce and take society in whatever direction profits them. Unless planned for, the future Free Market would likely need to go through a process similar to the development of anti-monopoly laws, but regarding ownership of labor. So "Simple UBI" is simply not a sufficient answer. A "Smart UBI" may be. "Every citizen has the right to one equal share of the automated labor force, an equal vote for what it does or does not do, and a fair share of what is produced as a whole." Does anyone have a better policy than this? If we made it law, citizens would vote for what automated labor does or does not do, and "We The People" can remain in control through our vote of what work gets done by sharing the tools this way, dictating what goals are accomplished, and where we go as civilized society. Also, this enables a fair UBI payment, funded by a profit sharing system from automated labor being rented hourly instead of owned, similar to a "Robot Income Tax." This UBI payment would start small today, but grow to scale proportionately with automation replacing people at jobs, getting larger over time as more technology is used, and softening the growing-pains of this economic transition. Doing it this way will not overtax the citizens or businesses, and it enables access to hourly rate automation tools for small businesses to be competitive against big businesses, distributing not just wealth to the Demand side, but access to the means of automated production to the Supply side, and therefore creating more businesses growing the middle class and economy overall. A citizen could potentially vote to use their share of automated labor towards their own startup business. Further, this hourly rate system enables another knob to tune the economy with, similar to adjusting interest rates for the supply side. It also enables automated labor rates to reflect the amount of labor supply voted for that sort of use, keeping a decentralized and democratized control of labor. These value additions make this policy far superior to a simple UBI payment, and enables a Democracy 2.0 and middle class post automation of the workforce. 2 and 3 Combo) Fighting Climate Change and Border Issues: Here is a video Interview on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT0A6Io612o Hyperloop Coast to Coast! Competitive to the Panama Canal as a shipping route this hyperloop design would be for shipping containers, not people, and it would generate toll money, paying for itself. Moreover, using this air-pressure based hyperloop removes a massive international carbon footprint, and it doubles as a border Wall if we do it from San Diego to The Gulf of Mexico (shortest route), which already has a budget and building plans for a "Wall," although with less functionality and ROI. This environmental infrastructure project which could serve that purpose just as well also returns a Higher ROI for the American Tax Dollar by providing additional service as a shipping route. I believe bipartisan support is possible, and further, to have infrastructure with our neighbor that bonds us, rather than divides the US Mexico relationship. Both countries would have access to same day coast to coast deliveries, and cleaner and more secure environments. Pacific to Atlantic Ocean transportation estimated in 5 or 6 hours, at zero emissions, using less energy than electric vehicles on roads. Boats would no longer have to spend the time and fuel to travel through Panama Canal or around South America. Medicines and important packages would be able to get places quickly and reliably. It is great for the Environment, for Business and Consumers, for National Security, and for Neighborly Relations while also establishing the United States as a Climate Change / New Green Technology Leader. 4) Healthcare for All - An App for That: HealthFactsApp "The Carfax of Healthcare" A free phone App patients can carry into the doctor's office with them, displaying a data driven diagnosis suggestion, with various known treatment options displayed with treatment outcome percentages and costs relevant to the patient's condition and insurance policy. Participants will upload their medical data enabling a comprehensive record for the data driven diagnosis suggestion. This will minimize Malpractice Insurance cases for hospitals and insurance companies, while educating and enabling patients to have compiled research on their specific condition. This not only provides the Doctor a comprehensive record, but essentially does their homework for them saving time and liability, providing better health outcomes. Further, it can help identify medical procedures that can save public funds through curative procedures, such as for a disabled person to receive a new surgery instead of opiates or other pain management healthcare results.
